For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve...
Mark 10:45
In Mark 10, Jesus is teaching His disciples about true greatness. James and John had just requested places of honor in His Kingdom, revealing a worldly view of leadership as power and privilege. Jesus flips this idea upside down, showing that in God’s Kingdom, greatness comes through humility and service.
Christ’s Example of Humility
Jesus is the Son of Man — a title that carries both His humanity and His divine authority (Daniel 7:13-14). Yet He chose the role of a servant, meeting needs rather than seeking recognition. Philippians 2:5-7 reminds us that Christ, though equal with God, made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant.
Service as Kingdom Leadership
True greatness in God’s eyes is not measured by how many serve you, but by how many you serve. Matthew 23:11 says, He who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
The Ultimate Act of Service
Jesus’ service was not just in daily acts of compassion, but in giving His life as the ransom — the price paid to free us from sin’s bondage. 1 Peter 1:18-19 points to this ransom as His precious blood, without blemish or spot.

Use your unique gifts to help build the Kingdom.
Serve faithfully in the Church, using the unique gifts God has given you to build up His people and advance His Kingdom
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God 1 Peter 4:10 NKJV.
For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we,
being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another, Romans 12:4-5 NKJV.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58 NKJV).
