Making disciples not just Converts
Bunkhouse Beacon – Making disciples and not Just Converts
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Never did Jesus command us to make believers; He commanded us to make disciples.
There's a profound difference.
A disciple is someone who learns, grows, and follows Christ daily, not just someone who makes a one-time decision. The Great Commission calls us to teach others "to observe all things" Jesus commanded.
This requires depth, commitment, and intentionality. As the Bible study emphasized, many churches focus only on reaching unbelievers, never building up the saints.
But discipleship is messy, challenging, and requires talking about difficult topics, finances, purity, holiness, and obedience.
Again, stop and ask yourself, who are you discipling? Who is discipling you?
Spiritual growth doesn't happen in isolation. Commit to both learning from someone further along in faith and investing in someone who needs guidance.
Grace and Peace
