The Man of Sorrows
Psalm 22:1 NIV My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
Psalm 22:16-18 NIV Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. 17 All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. 18 They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" A thousand years before Calvary, David penned these words that Jesus would cry from the cross.
But why did Jesus have to suffer? Couldn't He have just died quickly?
Here's the profound truth: sin produces more than death; it produces pain, shame, fear, and separation from God.
Jesus didn't just pay the penalty; He experienced the entire consequence of sin so you wouldn't have to. He knows our suffering from the inside out.
When cancer strikes, when relationships break, when darkness overwhelms, we have a High Priest who sympathizes with your weakness. He's been there. He's acquainted with grief. And because He suffered, you're never alone in yours.
What suffering are you facing that Jesus understands because He experienced it Himself?
Grace and Peace
