Bunkhouse Beacon - The Command to Forgive

Matthew 18:21-22 NKJV - Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Ephesians 4:29-32

Peter thought he was being generous when he suggested forgiving someone seven times. Jesus' response, seventy times seven, wasn't a mathematical equation but a heart transformation.

Forgiveness should flow endlessly from hearts changed by God's mercy.

The parable of the unforgiving servant cuts deep: we've been forgiven an unpayable debt, yet we sometimes refuse to forgive others for far smaller offenses.

When or if we withhold forgiveness, we act as if the debt against us is greater than what Christ forgave in us.

This command isn't optional for believers; it's essential to our identity.

Unforgiveness doesn't protect us; it imprisons us.

We become both the guard and the prisoner of our own bitterness.

Question: Is there someone you need to forgive today?

Remember: forgiveness doesn't excuse their sin, but it releases you from the prison of resentment.

Grace and Peace
