The Power of Divine Silence
Bunkhouse Beacon – The Power of Divine Silence
1 Kings 19:9-12 NKJV And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.” 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
Grace, before Elijah heard God's voice, he experienced an earthquake, wind, and fire, but God was in none of these.
Instead, the Lord spoke in a gentle whisper.
Like the pause in Revelation 10 between judgments, God often invites us into silence before speaking.
In our noisy world of constant notifications and competing voices, we miss the Holy Spirit's whisper.
Today, God isn't competing for your attention; He's waiting for it.
The quiet reveals what noise hides: our fears, doubts, and deepest needs.
But in that honest space, God meets us not with condemnation, but with truth and grace. Solitude with God is never truly being alone.
Question. When was the last time you intentionally created space to hear God's whisper?
Grace and Peace
