Bunkhouse Beacon - Buried and Raised -- Obedience Is the Point

Matthew 3:13-17 NKJV - Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14 And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” 15 But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him. 16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus did not need to be baptized. He carried no sin that required washing away. Yet He stepped into the Jordan River because His Father had a plan and He was committed to fulfilling it completely.

His baptism was an act of pure obedience.

The Father's response was immediate and unmistakable, a voice from heaven declaring His pleasure. Matthew 28:19-20 then extends that same spirit of obedience to every believer.

We are commissioned to go, to make disciples, and to baptize.

Obedience is not optional for the follower of Christ. It is the very shape that love takes when it is put into action.

Reflection Question: Is there an area of clear biblical instruction in your life that you have been postponing out of fear, convenience, or comfort?

Practical Application: Take one step of obedience today in an area where you know God has been calling you to act. Do not wait for perfect conditions.

Waiting for Him with you,
