Worship, the Beast, and What We Were Made For - Sermon Recap from Revelation 13

Good Day, Grace, and Grace online:

What an absolutely stunning morning on the lake! The beauty of this place takes my breath away. As wars continue in so many parts of the world, I’m especially grateful for the peace we enjoy here. We are so very blessed to call this area home.

We shared a wonderful morning of worship yesterday. This week, we continued our journey through the book of Revelation, and the truth we unpacked could not be more relevant to the world we live in right now.

Together we explored Revelation 13:2-4, with a particular focus on the theme of worship. While the passage introduces the beast, the Antichrist, and the dragon who empowers him, the central issue is not politics, economics, or prophecy - it is worship.

We have been created to glorify God, and sin does not remove that capacity. Instead, it redirects it. During the tribulation, the world will marvel at the beast and transfer to him the language and devotion that belong to God alone.

However, as true believers, we are called to recognize this pattern and resist it, not only in the future but in our daily lives right now.

Some main points from the Bible study:

We were made to worship, and the question is never whether we will worship, but who or what we will worship. As Paul describes in Romans 1:25, people don't stop worshiping; they exchange worship of the Creator for the creature. We must guard our hearts and minds against the subtle ways our culture invites us to marvel at power, fame, wealth, and beauty in place of God.

As believers, we carry the Spirit of the living God within us. We cannot be possessed by demonic forces, but we can and will be spiritually oppressed. Please don’t be surprised by that. The answer to that oppression is Scripture, prayer, and the authority we have in Jesus' name. We do not fight alone, and we do not fight from a place of defeat; we fight from a place of victory that has already been won.

Grace Baptist Church exists to equip believers, not simply to gather them. Sunday mornings are not the finish line of our faith; in fact, they are the starting line. We are prepared through true worship and His Word so that we can walk out of those double doors of the Church building, and then together, we can be the presence of Christ to every spirit being we encounter, wherever we work, play, study, or shop.

As we march into the month of October this week, carry this truth with you: you were not made merely to exist or survive. We were made to know God, to glorify God, and to make him known. That is the hope revealed in every page of Scripture, and it is the hope that no power in this world or the next can take from us.

In His Service With You,

Lars
