God's Protection does not mean the absence of Suffering
Bunkhouse Beacon - God's Protection Does Not Mean the Absence of Suffering
Isaiah 43:1-3b NKJV – But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior
James 1:2-3 NKJV – My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
Romans 8:28 NKJV - And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Isaiah 43 does not say "if you pass through the waters." It says "when." The promise is not that God will keep you from the fire. The promise is that the flame will not consume you.
James calls believers to count it all joy when trials come, not because suffering is pleasant, but because the testing of faith produces something that comfort never could.
God's protection is not always the removal of difficulty. It is the preservation of His people through it.
The same God who sustained a remnant in the wilderness for 1,260 days is the same God who sustains you through every hard and appointed season of your life.
Personal Reflection: Is there a trial in your life right now that you have been praying would simply end? Have you asked God what He might be producing in you through it?
Practical Application: Spend ten minutes in honest prayer today. Acknowledge the difficulty of your current trial to God without trying to resolve it in the prayer. Simply invite His presence into the middle of it and ask for the endurance James describes.
Waiting for Him with you,
Lars
