The Wilderness is not Abandonment
Bunkhouse Beacon - The Wilderness is not Abandonment
Revelation 12:6 NKJV - Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Revelation 12:14 NKJV - But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.
Exodus 19:4 NKJV - You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
1 Kings 19:1-8; Matthew 4:1-11
God prepared a place for the woman in the wilderness. That phrase deserves careful attention.
The wilderness was not an accident. It was not evidence that God had forgotten her. It was a place God had already arranged before she arrived.
Israel was sustained in the wilderness. Elijah was fed in the wilderness.
Jesus was present in the wilderness. The wilderness seasons of life, those stretches that feel isolating, restrictive, and barren, are not proof that something has gone wrong.
They are often the very places where God strips away every false source of security until we discover that He alone is enough. The wilderness is preparation, not punishment.
Reflection Questions:
Are you currently in a wilderness season? What false sources of security has that season exposed?
How does the image of God carrying His people on eagles' wings reframe the way you understand your present circumstances?
Practical Application: Spend fifteen minutes in silence today. Resist the urge to fill the quiet with noise or distraction. Ask God to speak into the wilderness season you are in or have walked through. Journal what surfaces during that time of stillness.
Waiting for Him with you,
Lars
