Bunkhouse Beacon - Nothing Can Separate You

Romans 8:35-39 NKJV - Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul lists seven painful circumstances in Romans 8:35 and then asks who or what could use them to sever a believer from the love of Christ.

The answer is nothing.

He does not promise that tribulation, distress, or persecution will never come. He promises they will never succeed in cutting you off from the one who loves you. This is a critical distinction.

God's love is not measured by the comfort of your circumstances. Instead, we must interpret our circumstances through the unchanging reality of his love.

No spiritual power, no personal failure, and no season of suffering holds authority over that love.

Reflection: In what area of your life have you been interpreting God's love through your circumstances rather than interpreting your circumstances through his love?

Practical Application: Identify one current hardship and write a brief statement reframing it through the lens of God's declared love rather than through how it feels.

Waiting for Him with you,

Lars
