Who you are in Christ

Bunkhouse Beacon - Who you are in Christ

Revelation 12:17 NKJV - And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Galatians 6:3; Ephesians 1:3-7

John identifies the offspring of the woman by two characteristics: they keep the commandments of God, and they hold the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Not by their social standing. Not by their past failures. Not by what others say about them.

The enemy works tirelessly to distort the believer's identity in one of two directions. He either inflates it toward pride and self-sufficiency, or he crushes it with shame and condemnation.

Both lies are equally destructive. The believer's identity is not built upon what he or she has done. It is built entirely upon what Christ has done.

You are not your worst moment. You are not your greatest achievement. You are a new creation.

Reflection Questions:

Which direction does the enemy most frequently attack your identity, toward pride or toward shame?

What would it look like practically to build your daily sense of self upon what Christ has done rather than upon your own performance?

Practical Application: Read Ephesians 1:3-7 slowly. Identify every phrase that describes who you are because of Christ. Write those phrases in your own words and read them aloud. Repeat this practice each morning this week before engaging with any other voice, digital or otherwise.

Waiting for Him with you,

Lars
